UK sea-fisheries statistics lose accreditation while improvements continue
The Marine Management Organisation says it agreed with the statistics regulator to cancel the accredited designation while continuing publication and working toward reaccreditation.
What the record says
The Marine Management Organisation announced on October 27 that it requested and agreed with the Office for Statistics Regulation to cancel accredited official-statistics status for its UK Sea Fisheries Statistics publications. The MMO says the statistics will continue to be published. It identifies further work on average-price methodology, the fishers’ survey and disclosure controls, alongside a development plan for improvements. The agency says it intends to seek reaccreditation in the future; the designation had previously been suspended in 2024.

Practical next step
Users of the sea-fisheries data can consult the notice and development plan when assessing the statistics’ current status and limitations.
Limits and what is not established
Cancellation of the accredited designation does not mean publication has stopped or every figure is invalid. Future reaccreditation is an intention, not a completed outcome.
